This hands-on workshop provides a gentle introduction to the Unix Shell, one of computing's most powerful and enduring tools. You'll learn to execute complex tasks with simple, elegant commands, automate repetitive workflows, and combine basic operations into sophisticated scripts. The shell forms the foundation for advanced computational work, including high-performance computing.
This is an interactive workshop! Please bring your laptop with the required software pre-installed. Detailed installation instructions are available here. If you need help with installation, arrive early. We will open the room at 8:30 AM.
Please register to attend. Registration is exclusively open to current Stanford affiliates and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. In-person attendees should bring a Stanford ID card or mobile ID to enter the library. Virtual attendees will receive a Zoom link upon registration.
